Creative explorations

Over the past few months I have explored different techniques using embroidery print techniques.

Militaria based

I did some experiments based on the military theme. I did a fashion based project using print and embroidery. Throughout the project I experimented with different stitch techniques and print ideas using my drawings and research ideas.

I used print and embroidery to create fashion based ideas based on militaria.

I created stylised badges using prints ontop of fabric and then stuffing them with stuffing and then stitching ontop to create a raised effect. The print technique I used was transfer print as it gave a quirky effect on the type of fabric I was using.

I used layering over my print and then stitch ontop of a sheer fabric to get an unusual effect.

For this idea I got creative with some invisable film which you can stitch on and then you wash it away which then leaves just your stitching. I really liked this technique and thought that it worked really well as a waistband on this dress sample.

This is a close up view of my stitching.

I have put some close up views of some of my intial stitch experiments and also some of my drawings that inspired my ideas.

Here was my initial invisable stitch idea.

I played around with some reverse applique.

I layered two different types of fabric and used a print and then stitched over the top of the printed parts. It gave me a raised effect.

This is a technique where you put medium sized stitches around the line and then pull it. Its called pin tucking. It works really well with circles as you can tell. It creates a raised effect that gives texture.

This is some of my artwork and research that I used to inspire my ideas.

Pencil drawings of symbols I really liked the idea of using them.

I used this very traditional style as a print ontop of my ideas to create a military base.

Here is some of my design ideas that i initially drew up to give me ideas.

Seaside theme - holiday work

I created a project based on my summer holidays. I used images from the seaside and my trip to london to create my print ideas.

My drawing of the pier.

I used this image and adjusted it to do a an open screen print.

I used this image to experiment with different print techniques.
This is my board of different techniques that I have used.

This is one of my open screen prints. I really like open screen and think that I could use it in the future projects.
