I really love embroidery and dont use it enough. I have done a few experiments with stitch and one of them was for a brief based along the same sort of brief for the hand & lock prize for embroidery competition.
I researched the previous winners to give me some inspiration. I came across lots of different techniques and one of them was hand stitched ribbons. I wanted to re-create the technique in my own way so I cut lots of strips of coloured ribbon and twisted and folded it into arrow shapes. I then cut up lots and stitched it on to a top by hand in a pattern that goes over the shoulder.
My other inspiration was lillies. The pointy petal shape matches the arrow effect that I have created.
Here is some pictures of my work.
I hand stitched each one on one at a time.
I tried to repeat the colours in turn to create a reformed pattern.
I made it go over the shoulder and round the back so that it had detail aswell.
I think that this technique that I have developed would be good in interiors as the effect would look better on a cushion or something. I think I will re visit this technique in the future.
